How it works

Most blockers are easy to switch off. Lucid isn't. It locks in, judges what's on screen against your goal, and makes you earn every exception.

Focus you can't

01

talk yourself out of

Locked sessions

Pick 15 minutes to 4 hours. Once it starts, it can't be turned off until the timer ends, even if you restart your Mac.

02

Understands context

Lucid judges what's on screen against your goal. A lecture on YouTube stays open. A random video gets closed.

03

Earn your exceptions

Need something that got blocked? Explain why. Lucid only opens it if the reason holds up, and only for that purpose.

04

One emergency exit

Life happens. You get one emergency quit per day. Use it wisely.

05

Private by design

Lucid checks the app name, window title, and page address. It never takes screenshots or reads what's on the page.

Get started

About two minutes, one time. Then Lucid lives in your menu bar.

  1. Install

Open Lucid.dmg from your Downloads and drag Lucid into the Applications folder.

  2. Open Lucid

Open it from Applications. If macOS says it can't verify the developer, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

  3. Allow Accessibility

Lucid asks for Accessibility access so it can see which window you're in. Turn on Lucid in System Settings.

  4. Keep it in the background

You'll see "Lucid added a background item." Leave it on. That keeps Lucid running through restarts and force quits.

  5. Find the hourglass

Lucid lives in your menu bar at the top right of your screen, not in the Dock.

  6. Start a session

Choose a length, then type what you're working on, like "Study linear algebra for Friday's exam."

  7. Allow your browser

The first time Lucid checks a tab, macOS asks whether Lucid can control Safari, Chrome, or Arc. Click Allow.

  8. Stay on task

Distracting tabs close and distracting apps hide. Need something? Pick it under Request access to and explain why.

Free. No catch.
